Families of children born through the Mater Hospital"s Neonatology Unit are getting involved in digital storytelling projects celebrating the lives of their children and the work of the Mater hospital.
For nearly thirty years the Mater Neonatology Unit has been receiving wonderful storyboards created by parents and family members that celebrate the lives of the children born through the Hospital. These stories have been proudly displayed in the wards for many years and have provided invaluable support and encouragement to the parents, families and friends experiencing the challenges and excitement associated with premature births.
Over the years a significant collection of storyboards has been gathered. The stories lovingly document the milestones and achievements of hundreds of Mater babies - from their earliest moments right through to high school graduations. Some of these storyboards have started to age causing staff to consider new ways of maintaining this tradition of storytelling in the digital age, thus the Mater PlaceStories project was born!

The new Neonates Unit is due to open in May 2008 and will incorporate a PlaceStories system to keep the storytelling tradition alive into the 21st century.
